Local museum Heimatstube Großerkmannsdorf

Small museum of local history, run by an active local history association

The roots of the Großerkmannsdorf Heimatstube go back to the 1980s. An existing course at the school in the village for "analysis and design of the local economic area", which was already led with much commitment by the teacher and later chairwoman of the local history society, Ilse Blochwitz, was to become its starting point. With a lot of zeal and ingenuity, the students and their teacher built a model of the village, which laid the foundation for the construction of the Heimatstube.

The first premises were found in the village on the private property of the Großmann family at Hauptstraße 33, which could only be used after extensive work and a great deal of organizational talent. On May 1, 1988 the opening of the Heimatstube took place. A lot of already compiled local historical material could be presented to the public for the first time. The villagers were impressed and there were awards for countless volunteer hours. The result was impressive. Initially, however, the exhibition could only be used intermittently, as there was no heating facility.

The villagers identified themselves more and more with their nice little Heimatstube, founded the Heimatverein Großerkmannsdorf e. V. in 1994 and donated more and more objects and equipment, so that the rooms were soon bursting at the seams. In March 1996 the Heimatstube could move into the former janitor's apartment of the school.

With the creation of a village community center in 2014, the Heimatstube also got a new and probably its final domicile. It presents the village life functions such as living, working, educating, providing and recreating in a historical perspective. Equipped with modern heating and elevator, the Heimatstube is barrier-free accessible.
